FAQ’s
What is life coaching?
The International Coaching Federation defines coaching as: “Partnering in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires a person to maximize their personal and professional potential.”
How is life coaching different from therapy?
Life coaching is an action-oriented practice to help people move forward in their present lives. Coaches and clients co-create plans to engage the client’s concerns with a view toward resolution.
Therapy is a scientific healing modality for all, but especially for those suffering from psychiatric diagnoses. Therapists undergo rigorous academic training and licensure to help a person explore the past roots of one’s present behaviors, and the influence of one’s family of origin in particular.
Both life coaching and therapy are practices unto the overall betterment of a human being.
What coaching experience do you have?
I earned the majority of my coaching experience at Cerebral, an online mental health company based in San Francisco. I coached forty clients a week in psychiatric medication management, mindfulness, meditation and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy from July 2020 - November 2022.
More recently, I worked as an in-person Recovery Coach at the Monte Nido Adult Residential Eating Disorder Treatment Center in West Linn, Oregon.
Prior to coaching, I spent ten years in various non-profits serving vulnerable youth and families, and moved to early childhood education and social services alongside my children.
What happens in a life coaching session?
The initial 15-minute complimentary consultation is informational. I introduce myself and my coaching philosophy, and answer any questions you might have.
Subsequent sessions are 45 minutes in length and follow the basic arc of:
Getting acquainted
Defining an issue
Creating an action plan
Reflecting on the process
Visualizing the future
Sessions continue for a minimum of 6 sessions, but I find that 12 sessions is the sweet spot in giving our relationship time to grow while considering the issues at hand.
What is the cost?
My initial 15-minute consultation is complimentary.
Subsequent 45-minute weekly coaching sessions are priced in 6- or 12-session prepaid packages, whichever you prefer:
6 sessions for $570 total
12 sessions for $1080 total
Life coaching is not covered by medical insurance at this time.
